Could it be?

Last night upon returning to my bed after the 22nd visit to the bathroom, I snuggled deep down into the covers. Our windows are not exactly saran wrap tight and it was in the 20s last night. I closed my eyes and then... felt something in my belly region. It was a high frequency "flutter". Could it be quickening - the first fetal movement? I remained alert and a few seconds later I felt some "gurgling" or "popping" to the left of my jewelry adorned (yes, still) belly button. Was it hunger pains? I was hungry. I'm always hungry. I don't know where this "you only need 300 extra calories when you're pregnant" advisory comes from, but I'm ALWAYS hungry. Thank goodness for cereal! But I digress... I felt these feelings for a while longer, then fell back asleep with Everett beside me and the two kitties on me - one on my arm, the other on my leg.

I couldn't wait to tell Everett. As soon as the alarm went off at 5:45AM, I told him. "Honey, I think I felt Zuzu last night." I related to him the story of my abdominal adventures and he was excited. Then he got up to shower and to start his morning ritual as I dozed back to sleep for another hour or so.

When I got up I consulted the "What to Expect When You're Expecting Book"- the supposed bible for pregnant women. To be honest, I don't think it's a great book, but it is filled with some useful information. This is what it told me.

Keep in mind we are at 16 weeks and 3 days (I count every day). The book says that the first fetal movements can occur anywhere between 14 and 26 weeks, BUT the average is between 18-22 weeks. Further, women who have given birth before or skinny women typically feel it sooner because they either know what to expect or ...well they're skinny. I am neither. But the descriptions of various women's experiences of quickening sound a lot like what I had experienced. And the book says first time Moms often confuse fetal movements for stomach gurgling in the beginning.

So I think Zuzu has officially announced her/himself! Welcome Zuzu! I hear (feel) you loud and (mostly) clear!
