Teaching a new dog new tricks

Zoe loves to play these days! Her favorite game is fetch. She fetches whatever you tell her to. Her favorite things to fetch include her bibs which normally reside in the kitchen on a shelf in a basket. She'll walk up to the basket and carry the bibs one by one to you as you sit on the couch in the living room - a whole whopping 6 feet away! Unfortunately, we have not perfected the returning of said bibs back to their rightful place!

She also still loves reading books and playing "I spy". By that I mean she loves to spy kitties and doggies which she calls "ki" and "do" (pronounced "do" as in "dau" in the word "dog", not "due" as in the word "do"), respectively. She has eyes like a hawk too! We'll be walking somewhere or leafing through a magazine and she'll start pointing and saying "ki" or "do" before we even see the darn animal!

Well she loves dogs so much that she's starting imitating them! Check her out in the video below saying "what a dog says":

Woof! Woof! Of course!

Wardrobe malfunction

So Daddy dressed Zoe today. Hmmmm. His comment, "She looks like a deranged cheerleader!" Needless to say, Mommy's going to have to re-dress the little one!

But check out her stylin' shoes! We got these from a friend of mine (Thanks Abigail!) a while ago, and Everett could not wait 'til she fit into the Chuck Taylors. Well she finally was able to last week and they have not been off her feet since!

Responsible parenting

Everyone says you should baby proof your house. And we have...sort of. We now have lock on our kitchen cabinets where we keep the industrial kitchen cleaners (yeah 409!), we have a gate around our TV, its cords, and the fireplace, and we are getting into the habit of always shutting the bathroom door.

But Zoe loves window blind cords. I think she thinks it's a teething toy. The ones in her bedroom by her crib are tied up nice and high, but the ones in the living room are just out of her reach when she's standing on the couch (with help) - they're long enough for her to put in her mouth, but not long enough for her to put around herself. We'll have to put these up soon though - she's growing so fast!

Swingin' Good Time

Summertime is wonderful! I remember playing outside until all hours (well, at least until dinner time) with my sisters and neighborhood kids. No, I won't be posting some "when I was kid life was so much better" entry. Instead I want this post to be about remembering the simple pleasures of a summer night. Here's a video of Zoe enjoying her birthday gift from Mom and Dad. I don't know which is better - Zoe's laughter or smile. In either case, enjoy them both!

For Auntie Maddy

Okay, so Auntie Paccy Waccy Saccy Daccy claims she's going into withdrawal since it's been a while since I've posted. So here you go!

So much has happened in a month! Zoe turned 1 and got her first tattoo. Not a real tattoo, of course! I can't find the picture now (must be on the other 'puter) so I'll post those pics later. Suffice it to say, she loved her party, but was not a big cake fan!

What else...Well we've been a travelin'!

In June, Everett went to Thailand for work for 10 days. He had a good time (despite having eaten big waspy-looking ants and their eggs) and took a few pictures in between working at the factory there. He enjoyed Thai kickboxing.

A week after he got back, we went camping ay Big South Fork National Park. We had a great time hiking and hanging out with Zoe and friends. I think Zoe really enjoyed herself - she got to be outside constantly! What more could she want?! Last summer, we joked about moving her nursery to outside in the backyard because whenever we would bring her out there, she would stop fussing. Well, we finally did just that! She slept "like a baby" in the tent in her pack-n-play.

We went on a hike to these sandstone arches - it was really cool! Literally, you could walk inside them and it was very cool! Speaking of cool (the other "cool" now), Zoe has taken up rock climbing! Boy do they grow up fast! :)

Finally, we got married - again! Grandma and Papa got to watch Zoe while Mom and Dad headed out for their first vacation without the little one. It was hard leaving her and it was great to come back to her! In between the goings and comings, Everett and I managed to have some fun in Las Vegas! We got married by Elvis (!!), rode the roller coaster at the New York New York Hotel and Casino (where we also stayed), saw O (a Cirque du Soleil show at the Bellagio), and generally had a great time reconnecting.

Is life great, or what?
