My belly's a rumblin'

So Everett, Everett's Mom, and I were sitting in Macy's on these comfortable tan chairs in the middle of the women's clothing department. I had my shirt up over my belly and was slouching down when all of a sudden I saw and felt Mango! Just to the left of my belly button I saw this ripple of movement underneath and then I felt what I was sure was Mango's hand or foot! I asked Everett to come feel my belly and when he did he said he couldn't feel anything moving. What? I can actually see my belly undulating and you can't feel it? Really?

Then I woke up.

Ah yes, I am in anticipation mode. I am awaiting Mango's first outward signs of existence. We are at 15 weeks and 3 days. I think I first felt Zuzu at 16 weeks and 3 days. I'm still on the early side of being able to feel the baby within me, but it's coming any day now. I keep feeling these "growing pains" where I think I can feel my inner muscles around my belly stretch. I know, it sounds weird, but it's true.

I'm still in regular clothes, but not for long. I have a defined pregnant belly now. It's still small, but it's unmistakable. I tried to suck in my gut yesterday and it didn't shrink a bit! At our doctor appointment this week, I gained back the 3 pounds that I lost after our last doctor appointment (thanks to the Week of Ill). So I'm up 3 whole pounds! I think this is where I was with Zuzu at this point so all seems to be progressing smoothly!

Between you and me, one of the best things about being pregnant is the belly transformation. Sure, it'll get in my way later on, but right now, I love it. I think it's cute. I think pregnant women are cute. I love to touch my belly and feel its boundaries. It's my security blanket. I don't feel so alone when I run my hand over its taut surface. I follow it gingerly from the right edge where it starts to protude from my side, up and over the belly button (which is protruding even more), and then back down the left side. It's really incredible how the edges of the belly are so well defined - especially later on in pregnancy. You can almost imagine your hand as if it were a skier skiing off a jump when it slides down one side.

Thanks for being in my belly Mango.

I'll bet you'll feel that sweet baby any minute now. I felt the movements sooner the second time, because I recognized the feeling. Keep sending those happy mama vibes! I'm enjoying them all the way over here.
